-First Week-

Monday morning, I read a couple of chapters in my text books and did a few chores. Then I got ready for school. My uniform is very nice. It is a little big but manageable. I had my name monogrammed on the side which is great because you are required to wear a name tag or put your name on your jacket. I won’t have to pin a tag on every morning. Yes!

I also have to wear a black hat that looks like it came from a pirate’s ship. It is called a skull cap. How appropriate! Good thing about the cap, I don’t have to wear a hair net. And as long as my hair is tied back, I’m ok.

My instructor is Chef Branton and there are about sixteen students in my class. My classes are about four and a half to five hours long. And because it was the first day of ‘Culinary Skills 1’, there was a lot of talking involved. We sat on these very uncomfortable bar stools, for about two and a half hours, listening to all the ins and outs of the course. It was very interesting but long.

After that we tested our knife skills on a few vegetables. We cut carrots, celery and an onion. I loved it! Always wondered how you cut an onion into quarter inch squares perfectly.J It really boosted my confidence level. I was so nervous in the beginning.
